An abnormal indivisible load is a load cannot be carried on a standard goods vehicle due to its weight or dimensions. It therefore requires special type vehicle arrangements for its movement and notification to numerous authorities.

You will learn the legal framework for transporting abnormal loads and both STGO and Special Order Movement notices. This course will also highlight how to notify the enforcement and highway authorities and ensure attendants and escorts are in place.

This is a 3-hour online course counting as one optional module towards the FORS Practitioner qualifications.

By the end of the training course delegates will be able to:


  • Describe the differences between construction and use, abnormal construction and use, and abnormal special type load movements
  • Apply the rules of STGO movement conditions dependent on vehicle weight, dimensions, lighting and marking
  • Plan routes and correctly notify the relevant authorities using the ESDAL system and AIL movement application forms
  • Ensure attendants and escorts are competent and escort vehicles are correctly marked and equipped
